Former consumer advocate considered for post nomination

Friday, March 4, 2005 | 10:54 a.m.

Sen. Harry Reid is considering Nevada attorney and former state Consumer Advocate Jon Wellinghoff as a possible nominee to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

Reid and Wellinghoff are scheduled to meet and discuss a possible nomination early next week, a spokeswoman from Reid's Washington office said this morning.

Wellinghoff is currently a shareholder at the Beckley Singleton law firm in Las Vegas where he specializes in energy and consumer law.

In July Reid publicly demanded the resignations of FERC Chairman Patrick Wood and Commissioner Nora Mead Brownell, charging that they have failed to protect Nevada consumers from the misdeeds of Enron Corp.
