Boys and Girls Clubs of Las Vegas has awarded its highest honor to Alejandro "Alex" Mentado, naming the 17-year-old Clark High School student the 2005 Youth of the Year.
The nationally recognized honor program is designed to promote and recognize service to club and community, academic performance and contributions to family and spiritual life.
Additional scholarships and donations were given to the five finalists: Adrain Reed, Andre Agassi Club; Shaina Holmes, B.C. McCabe Club; Justyn Collier, Donald W. Reynolds Club; Jay Aguilar, Jackie Gaughan Club; and Garrett Belvil, Lied Memorial.
