Pitching strong in win at Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. - UNLV pitchers threw seven scoreless innings and the Rebels scored two of their three runs on RBI singles to beat UC Irvine 3-2 at Anteater Ballpark on Tuesday night.

UNLV improved to 3-10, snapping a two-game losing streak. The Anteaters lost their fourth consecutive game and fell to 6-6. Kyle Tabeek didn't allow a hit and struck out two in 2 1/3 scoreless innings of work to earn his second win of the season, improving to 2-0.

Tabeek relieved starter Efren Navarro Jr., who pitched 4 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball. Derek Rodriguez earned his first save as a Rebel, getting the final four outs of the game to preserve the win after UC Irvine was threatening to tie the game in the late innings.
