UNLV lawyer earns promotion

University system officials have promoted Marc Cardinalli, administrative code officer at UNLV, to assistant general counsel.

Cardinalli will aid UNLV General Counsel Richard Linstrom in addition to his administrative code duties as part of the promotion, Linstrom said.

The new position is part of the ongoing restructuring of the University and Community College System of Nevada legal affairs team, Linstrom said. Both he and Cardinalli report to Daniel Klaich, vice chancellor of legal affairs in the system office.

Klaich was promoted from chief general counsel to vice chancellor last month with a salary increase of $20,000. That raised his pay to $170,000 a year.

Cardinalli's promotion comes with a "symbolic" salary increase of about $1,500, to $110,000 a year, Sam Connally, associate vice president for human resources, said. Cardinalli has worked for UNLV since 1998, having previously worked as an assistant attorney in the university system office and as a deputy attorney general for Nevada.

Linstrom was hired from the state attorney general's office in November for $115,000 a year, Connally said.
