Three sought in cabbie attack

Authorities were looking for three people in connection with the stabbing of a Yellow Cab driver this morning.

The stabbing occurred shortly before 8 a.m. at Morris Street and Tunis Avenue, near Mountain Vista Street and Hacienda Avenue, Metro Police said.

Rob Stewart, investigator for the Nevada Taxicab Authority, said the driver picked up two women at Silverado Ranch Boulevard and Maryland Parkway, then they made a stop to pick up a man.

The man stabbed the driver in the neck, back and head, then the three fled from the minivan. The man was last seen running toward Courtney Middle School at 5301 E. Hacienda Ave., Officer Jose Montoya, police spokesman, said, and police locked down the school for a short time.

Robbery detectives were called to the scene, but it's not clear if robbery was the motive, investigators said.

"We have no evidence of a robbery," Stewart said, adding that a camera was not installed in the cab.

The driver was in surgery this morning with injuries that could be life-threatening, he said.
