Public Lands Initiative hires four

The UNLV Public Lands Initiative has hired four new employees in the last month to oversee five educational and research programs.

The university has selected Donna Grady to manage the Interagency Volunteer Program, George Phillips to head the Cultural Site Stewardship Program, Allison Brody to run the Environmental Education Strategy Program and Daphne Sewing to oversee the Forever Earth and Wonderful Outdoor World on the Water programs.

The Public Lands Initiative is a partership between UNLV and the Bureau of Land Management, the National Park Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Forest Service. The partnership began in April 2004 and the university programs are paid with federal land sale proceeds governed by the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act.

Grady will work with the federal agencies to help recruit and train more volunteers. Phillips will work on preserving local historical and cultural sites, and Brody and Sewing will promote the educational opportunities of the state's natural resources.
