Lightweight rematch no done deal

Promoter Gary Shaw disputed an online report that said a deal has been struck for Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo to stage a rematch of their memorable May 7 lightweight bout on Oct. 8 in Las Vegas.

Corrales stopped Castillo in the 10th round at Mandalay Bay after twice getting knocked down in the consensus best fight of 2005, and perhaps of the decade so far.

"There has been a discussion with Top Rank, but there are still a lot of details to be worked out," Shaw, who promotes Corrales, said. "The problems, as always, are in the details. And Bob (Arum, of Top Rank) and I haven't gotten down to any details yet. ...

"I guarantee that there have been no documents circulated anywhere, to anyone, regarding this fight."

While a rematch against Castillo would make for an attractive show, Shaw said, it's also possible that Corrales' next fight could come against Ricky Hatton, who upended Kostya Tszyu earlier this month and holds the IBF 140-pound championship.

"Frank Warren (Hatton's promoter) called me (Tuesday) and offered me a fight against Hatton," Shaw said, "and as Corrales' promoter, I have to consider that offer."
