Parkinson's support group to meet

The American Parkinson's Disease Association's Henderson/Green Valley Parkinson's Support Group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Presbyterian Church, 1798 Wigwam Parkway at Valle Verde Drive. Call 564-5416 for details.

Men's workshops service planned

The Fountain of Hope AME Church will hold a Men's Day Workshop Service "Mighty Men of Battle" at 4 p.m. Sunday at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd.

Public can attend conference on aging

The public is invited to attend the 2005 Nevada Conference on Aging from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on July 6 in UNLV's Moyer Student Union ballroom. Registration begins at 9 a.m.

Nevada Gov. Kenny Guinn and UNLV President Carol C. Harter will open the Las Vegas conference, an officially designated "Solutions Forum" of the White House Conference on Aging.

The Nevada conferences are designed to generate solutions and public policy recommendations on aging issues that can be carried by Nevada's delegates to the White House Conference on Aging.

The conference will include working group sessions focusing on six key WHCoA topic areas (financial planning, workplace issues, community issues, health, social engagement and marketplace issues), as well as presentations from senior service experts and others on solutions to many aging-related issues.

'Girls Day Out' set for July 16

KRRN 105.5-FM and KMXB 94.1-FM, in partnership with Peoples Mazda Mitsubishi Kia Isuzu, presents the fourth annual "Girls Day Out" 10 a.m.-4 p.m. July 16 at the Suncoast. Admission and parking are free for all attendees.

"Girls Day Out" is Las Vegas's largest and most successful all day expo for women which features over 60 of Las Vegas' businesses targeting women's products and services.

The event will feature all-day entertainment which will include two return performances by Australia's "Thunder From Down Under" male cabaret review from the Excalibur. The also will be Clark County firemen on hand, demonstrations where attendees can learn about the newest techniques for beauty, fashion and health, and a fashion show.

Giveaways include 750 "Romance Bags" from Party Gals, free feather boas, chocolate fro Sir Chocolate's Fountain and free 10 tickets every hour.

Detmer to promote kids' Web safety

Heisman Trophy Winner and NFL BYU quarterback Ty Detmer is teaming up with Friendly Computers to promote safer online surfing for kids.

Detmer will be signing CDs of the free software 3-7 p.m. July 12 in Friendly Computers parking lot, 3145 N. Rainbow Blvd., to help mark Purple Dude Internet Awareness Day. Purple Dude Internet Watch is a new keystroke-logging program developed by Friendly Computers, aimed to keep kids safe by helping parents check their online activities.

The autograph-signing event will include free food and entertainment.
