NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE

LAKE MEAD: Fishing is continuing its pattern of being fairly good for boaters and slow for shore anglers with occasional days when the wind has made fishing a nearly impossible endeavor.

Tuesday morning, an angler fishing for striped bass from the shoreline between Pumphouse Cove and Hemenway Harbor had no success. He said he did not see any shad in the coves and stripers were not breaking the surface.

Boaters fishing off Special Events Beach reported success for stripers that are concentrated in deep water in that area. Anglers fishing from shore at Special Events Beach have had some luck for channel catfish.

Fishing was nearly nonexistent in the Overton Arm over the weekend because of the high winds. NDOW creel census clerks only checked a few stripers that were taken by a boater who was fishing around the islands by Echo Bay Marina.

LAKE MOHAVE: Good fishing for striped bass continues to be found north and south of Cottonwood Cove. Boaters baiting their hooks with anchvoies or a combination of anchovies and squid are catching stripers that weigh around a pound.

Rainbow trout fishing was fair for the 30 anglers who were on hand for last Friday's plant at Willow Beach. Most anglers managed to catch a few trout before the fish headed to deep water. Small spinners proved to be the best method for catching the fish. This week's plant was scheduled for today.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA: Strong winds have been making for difficult fishing conditions. When anglers have been able to try their luck, they have had success for rainbow trout at Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs.

Surface temperatures at all lakes are 68 to 70 degrees. Daytime temperatures have been in the low 80s while evenings have been dipping to the low 40s.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR: Pete Gill from Nevada State Parks said that fishing continues to be good for rainbow trout. The fish were small, ranging from nine to 11 inches. Anglers reported good success with PowerBait and live worms. The water continues to clear and even fly fishermen were taking fish.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR: Anglers continued to have success for rainbow trout. The fish were 11-13 inches and were taken with live worms and PowerBait. Anglers also reported that a few largemouth bass and crappie we also taken with Gitzits. The water clarity continues to improve.

URBAN PONDS: Anglers reported a noticeable drop in success for stocked catfish in all urban ponds following the heavy pressure of Free Fishing Day.
