Letter: GOP doesn’t care about problems of middle class
Thursday, June 23, 2005 | 9:05 a.m.
From what I've seen happening in the U.S. Senate, I do not believe the Republicans care what happens to this country as long as they get their way. Money is the essence of their lives, no matter how they ruin the decency and fairness in our laws.
I am proud that Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., is fighting for the people, because Republicans don't care that the middle class is hurting, that many of our people can't find decent jobs and that many cannot afford healthy food to feed their children before school.
Republicans fight every attempt to really help the people who need help. It is a sad country that treats its citizens that way.
When people voted for President Bush they obviously did not know or care how they were contributing to the ruination of our country. In all of my 87 years, I've never seen my country so ill, and I fear as well for its future health.
The Republicans in the Senate, minus some who still respect our laws, want to erase our heritage of decency and fair play for all of our citizens. Their selfishness and their ignorance of fair play will be a black mark on the Senate if they continue to passively accept the ideas of Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., and President Bush.
