MLB official denies story told by Rose

Major League Baseball president and chief operating officer Bob DuPuy said no official of the sport has ever asked Pete Rose not to host an autograph show in Cooperstown, N.Y., during Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.

In a feature that ran in Tuesday's edition of the Sun, Rose said, as per MLB requests, he did not go to Cooperstown the last three years, but that he planned to hold such an event there late next month.

Ryne Sandberg and Wade Boggs will be inducted into the Hall during the last weekend of July. DuPuy responded to an interview question by the Sun after Tuesday's press deadline.

"We never asked Pete not to do a Cooperstown show," DuPuy wrote in an e-mail. "He decided it was not in his interest to do so. No one is or has tried to prevent him from making a living."
