Executive suspended from job as DUI incident investigated

Rob Powers, vice president of community relations for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, was arrested June 9 on charges of felony drunken driving and has been suspended from his job pending an investigation.

According to a police report, Powers crashed his vehicle into a parked police motorcycle, causing both vehicles to strike a police officer standing nearby. Powers failed four field sobriety tests, the report said.

Powers was previously vice president of public relations and became director of publicity, a new position without the vice president title, about a year ago. He assumed his present title about two months ago.

His boss Terry Jicinsky, senior vice president of marketing at the LVCVA, said Powers "was never demoted" during that time.

Jicinsky declined to comment on a news report that Powers took a leave of absence to attend a substance abuse program prior to becoming director of publicity, saying the LVCVA doesn't discuss "personnel matters."
