County gets rehearing on expansion

An arbitration panel has granted Clark County officials a rehearing in the county's fight with the firm they say botched an expansion to the juvenile detention center, a county spokesman said.

The move, which sets another hearing for July 21, came about a month after the three-member panel found there was not enough evidence for the county to prove AF Construction billed it an extra $33 million for the expansion project.

County officials reportedly presented new evidence at a preliminary rehearing last month, although county spokesman Erik Pappa would not elaborate.

The panel is also expected to weigh the county's claim in the Regional Justice Center job, another AF Construction project, but no date has been set for that hearing, Pappa said.

County commissioners on April 19 voted to remove AF Construction from that $185 million project, which is now more than three years overdue.
