Two juveniles arrested in shooting incidents

Metro Police arrested two juveniles near Rancho Drive and Bonanza Road in two shooting incidents that took place less than 1 1/2 hours apart on Thursday.

Metro is investigating whether the two shootings are related but were treating the incidents as separate, said Metro Lt. George Castro.

No one was hurt in the shootings.

In a third incident in the general area that night, a 2-year-old was reportedly shot in the head with a BB gun at Rancho Drive and Alexander Road. The victim was reportedly taken to a convenience store for assistance, but police could not find the victim when they arrived on scene, said Lt. Rick Vonfeldt of Metro.

The first incident took place around 8 p.m. near the Church's Chicken restaurant at 601 N. Rancho Drive. Police responded to reports of gunshots at the restaurant and saw a juvenile fleeing in a vehicle that had been stolen prior to the incident, Castro said.

The juvenile then jumped out of the vehicle nearby and broke into a home to evade capture, Castro said. A police dog was sent into the house in the area of Washington Avenue and Pyramid Drive near Lorenzi Park, and the suspect surrendered after the dog bit the suspect on the foot, Castro said.

About 1 1/2 hours later, police responded to another incident of gunfire at the same Church's Chicken parking lot. Police saw another juvenile fleeing the scene after the gunfire was reported, he said.

Police apprehended the suspect after a short pursuit in vehicles and on foot, Castro said.

The first suspect is being charged with home evasion and driving a stolen vehicle while the second is being charged with illegal gun possession, he said.
