Seminars planned for firefighter hopefuls

Two information seminars are scheduled for those interested in being firefighters in Las Vegas and North Las Vegas.

The seminars will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 16 at the North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 21 at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.

Las Vegas and North Las Vegas are preparing a joint recruitment for the position of firefighter trainee.

Recruitment for firefighter trainee involves a highly competitive process, and early preparation for the written and physical ability exams is necessary.

The sessions are informational only. Applications will be available beginning Oct. 17 through Nov. 17, on the city of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas Websites.

The recruitment will involve a highly competitive process that includes a written exam scheduled Jan. 25, and a pass/fail physical ability test scheduled for mid-March.

Interfaith forum set for Wednesday

An interfaith forum to discuss peace among Jews, Muslims and Christians will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Islamic Society Center, 4730 E. Desert Inn Road.

A distinguished panel of speakers will be participating in the open forum focusing on the opportunities and challenges of peaceful co-existence among the three religions.

The panel will consist of Deanna Armbruster, executive director of the American Friends of Neve Shalom; Dr. Aslam Abdullah, director of the Islamic Society of Nevada; Rabbi Richard Schachet, Rabbi Valley Outreach Synagogue; Michael Ladah; author and professor; Dr. Souheil Elia, co-founder and co-chairman of the Jewish Arab Dialog Association.

History of health in LV to be discussed

The Clark County Nevada Genealogical Society will present the program "Health Care in Early Las Vegas" by Helen Holly 10 a.m. to noon at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway, Henderson.

Henderson planning Fourth of July events

Henderson will host its annual Fourth of July celebrations from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Morrell Park, located at Harris Street and Major Avenue, and from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Anthem Hills Park, 2256 N. Reunion Drive.

The Morrell Park celebration will feature live performances, a variety of food concessions, carnival games and attractions, and a fireworks display by Grucci starting at 9 p.m.

Continuous shuttle bus service will ba available from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. from Basic Road and Water Street with pickup at City Hall.

Tickets for carnival games and attractions may be purchased on site. Admission is free at both locations.
