Commission approves driveways for Hard Rock condo project
Thursday, June 9, 2005 | 9:40 a.m.
The Clark County Commission on Wednesday stopped short of giving the Hard Rock Hotel a formal go-ahead for a driveway to a planned new condominium project that would sit 25 feet away from one leading to a neighboring condo complex.
Commissioners, acting as the zoning board, approved the two driveways contingent on a traffic study by county engineers. That study could dictate the driveways, both of which lead to condominium projects on Harmon and Paradise roads, be anywhere from 25 feet to more than 125 feet apart.
Engineers had previously told the board the two driveways would need to be roughly 125 apart to ensure smooth traffic flow on the busy thoroughfare, but later said that number was a standard determination and may differ from what traffic specialists say is necessary.
Commissioners on May 5 approved splitting what had been a planned shared driveway with the Hard Rock and another condo project last month after hearing security concerns from Metro Police and Hard Rock executives. They instead required two separate driveways be built.
Hard Rock executives have pegged the expansion, which also will include four new restaurants and a rooftop lounge, at more than $1 billion.
