Shriver resigns his post on economic development board

Wednesday, June 8, 2005 | 11:14 a.m.

Bob Shriver has resigned as executive director of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development, Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt announced this morning.

Shriver held the position for more than eight years.

Reached this morning, Shriver confirmed his resignation and said it was time for a change.

"Sometimes you get in a rut," he said.

While he declined to go into any specifics about what motivated his departure, Shriver said the exit clears the way for the commission to make small changes, which he wouldn't identify.

"We agreed to disagree," Shriver said about his resignation. "It was very amicable and very professional."

Tim Rubald, the commission's director of business development, has been named interim director while a national search is conducted for a replacement.

Somer Hollingsworth, chief executive of the Nevada Development Authority, said the resignation came as a surprise but added that it should not dampen any economic development activities in the state.

"Bob was a great guy and we loved working with him," he said. "But this won't slow anything down. We are hitting on all eight cylinders."

Shriver agreed.

"I think we have put in place the mechanics and policies and legislation that will help us for the next decade for sure," he said.

Shriver said he intends to stay in the economic development field, possibly in Nevada.
