Challenger claims victory in Atlantic City mayoral race

Wednesday, June 8, 2005 | 9:24 a.m.

ATLANTIC CITY -- A lifeguard making his first bid for office outpolled incumbent Mayor Lorenzo Langford in the Democratic primary Tuesday, and both were betting that the campaign's wild card -- thousands of yet-uncounted absentee ballots -- would not change the result.

With 100 percent of the vote in, Bob Levy had 54 percent of the vote, to 46 percent for Langford.

Langford, 49, a former casino dealer seeking re-election to a second four-year term, conceded in a speech to supporters at his campaign headquarters.
