Three Las Vegas teachers have been recognized by the Wal-Mart & Sam's Club Foundation for their excellence in the classroom.
This year's local winners are: Cheri DiMartino, Eva Wolfe Elementary School; Tina Laureano, Antonello Elementary School; and Robin Schumacher, Staton Elementary School.
The teachers each receive a $50 shopping card to purchase classroom supplies and an honorary Wal-Mart "greeter's vest." Each teacher's school also receives a $1,000 educational grant.
Wal-Mart's Teacher of the Year program is now in its 10th year. Members of the community may nominate teachers for local recognition. Those teachers are then eligible for state and national awards. Nevada's statewide winner, who will be announced later this year, will receive a $10,000 educational grant for his or her school. The national winner receives an additional $25,000 in school funds.
