Man charged in hit-and-run

Henderson Police charged a man with several violations Saturday in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident.

Police said a red Toyota pickup truck veered off Boulder Highway near Major Avenue, hitting Wayne Anthony DeSantis, 47, walking northbound on the shoulder about 7:45 a.m. Saturday. DeSantis died at the scene, police said.

The pickup truck left the scene, but witnesses gave officers a description of the truck and a license plate number, police said.

Officers found the truck at the home of Richard Giedemann, 44, who owned the truck.

Police arrested Giedemann on charges of felony DUI, hit-and-run involving death, reckless driving involving death, involuntary manslaughter, driving with a suspended registration and failing to give information to an officer after an accident.

Giedemann was booked into the Henderson Detention Center.

Two men die in separate crashes

A 43-year-old Albuquerque man and a 54-year-old Las Vegas man died in separate crashes on Friday, Metro Police said.

The first crash occurred about 9:30 a.m. Friday on Paradise Road just north of the Thomas & Mack Center.

A 2005 Buick Le Sabre was traveling south on Paradise Road in front of a 2002 Dodge pickup truck traveling in the same direction when the Buick tried to turn left, Metro Police said.

The Dodge pickup truck driver tried to brake, according to witnesses and evidence at the scene, but could not avoid hitting the Buick, police said.

The Buick driver, Daniel A. Trujillo, died and his passenger, Barbara Nolan, 50, was taken to Sunrise Trauma Unit with serious injuries.

The pickup truck driver, 26-year-old Jeremy Shotkoski of Las Vegas, received minor injuries, officers said.

The other collision occurred about 3:25 p.m. on Sunset Road near Eastern Avenue. A man driving a Toyota pulled out of a private drive onto Sunset and turned left into the path of a 2005 Subaru WRX. The victim's name was not released this morning.

Man arrested in slaying

Metro Police on Thursday arrested a 21-year-old Las Vegas man in the killing of an 18-year-old man and in connection with shots fired at his former girlfriend's new boyfriend, police said.

The shooting occurred at 1:15 a.m. May 30 in the driveway of a home in the 1200 block of Arden Street near Charleston and Lamb boulevards.

Police said Noe Martinez ambushed Santiago Valdez and another man as they got out of a car. Valdez died. Martinez's former girlfriend, who was in the car, told police he was the shooter, according to the police report.

Martinez claimed to be a gang member from Orange County, Calif., and his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend associates with a rival Las Vegas gang, police said.

Detectives said Martinez was jealous about his ex-girlfriend's new relationship.

He is being held in the Clark County Detention Center on charges of murder and attempted murder.
