Jenkins beats Weibring in playoff
Tom Jenkins rolled in a 5-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole to beat D.A. Weibring and win the Allianz Championship in Polk City, Iowa.
Jenkins and Weibring, the defending champion, finished 54 holes on the wind-swept Tournament Club of Iowa at 9-under 204, Jenkins closing with a 67 and Weibring a 66.
Both parred the first playoff hole, No. 18. Then they went to the par-5 17th, and Jenkins set himself up with a clutch wedge from the fairway. The ball bounced in front of the hole, then curved around behind and stopped 5 feet away. After Weibring's 10-foot birdie putt rolled just past the left rim, Jenkins knocked in the winner.
Jenkins was three strokes down after No. 10, then birdied four of his next six holes to move into the lead.
Annika finishes with a flourish
At Galloway Township, N.J., with a vintage performance and a rousing finish, Annika Sorenstam eagled the last hole for a final-round 64 to win the ShopRite LPGA Classic by four strokes.
After fending off challenges by Juli Inkster and Laura Davies, Sorenstam rolled in a 38-foot putt for eagle at the 18th that put the finishing touches on a 17-under 196 total.
It was Sorenstam's 61st LPGA victory and fifth in seven events of this season.
Inkster closed with a 68 and was 13 under. Catriona Matthew (64) and Davies (68) were five strokes back at 12 under. Sorenstam trailed Inkster after one round, and the two shared the lead after 36 holes. The Swede overtook Inkster when it counted, rallying from an unremarkable start with near-flawless irons and precise putting.
Jimenez cruises in final round
At Newport,Wales, Miguel Angel Jimenez eagled the 16th hole from 40 feet and finished with a 7-under 62 to win the Wales Open by four strokes.
The Spanish Ryder Cup player trailed by one shot entering the final round and bogeyed his second hole. He had six birdies, plus the eagle, for a 14-under 262 total.
Martin Erlandsson shot a 63 to share second place with Jose Manuel Lara (66).
Jimenez earned his second win of the season.
