Boys and Girls Clubs offers break on charges

Monday, June 6, 2005 | 8:27 a.m.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Las Vegas, a youth development organization with a primary focus on young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, is now offering more affordable rates and scholarships for its Summer 2005 program.

Every new member gets one week of membership at no cost.

An annual membership fee of $50 allows members to attend any of 11 Boys and Girls Clubs of Las Vegas facilities throughout the valley, including sites in Green Valley, North Las Vegas, West Las Vegas and at UNLV.

In addition to the annual membership fee, there is a weekly fee for summer programming based on size of household and income, but under new policies, many members' fees will be waived or reduced to a nominal amount.

Boys and girls ages 5-18 are invited to participate in a variety of activities all summer long, including field trips, water days, dress-up days like Pajama Day and Crazy Hail Day, and other special events such as roller derby days and indoor/outdoor games tournaments.

Through a partnership with After School All Stars, a computer camp is also offered in the summer months.

The club's full-time staff presents year-round programs that emphasize character and leadership development; education and career development; health and life skills; the arts; and sports, fitness and recreation.

For more information about summer programs, call 367-2582 or visit www.bgclv.org.
