Letter: Contempt for the rule of law, then and now

Friday, June 3, 2005 | 9:01 a.m.

If there is anything to be gained upon learning the identity of "Deep Throat" it is that we now have a very clear view of the motives and priorities of those who would even dare question the motives and previous actions of this man. That the national media gives the time of day to air opinions of those who violated the law and/or were convicted felons involved in the Watergate scandal should give pause to those of us who are aware of the increasing government influence and manipulation of the media.

That the current president of the United States can render no opinion of Mark Felt is unbelievable and indicative of an administration that increasingly shows its contempt for the rule of law, as opposed to arbitrary "codes of honor." If the Terri Shaivo case was not enough of an illumination, this certainly is.

To those who are comfortable counting themselves as "patriots" because of their untested support of this administration, all the significance will be lost in the spin of talk radio, talk TV and any other pundits to whom they delegate their thinking.
