Guest columnist Ryan Keeney: Putting is lowlight of disappointing day

Friday, June 3, 2005 | 9:38 a.m.

UNLV junior golfer Ryan Keeney will be providing a daily diary exclusively for the Las Vegas Sun during the NCAA Golf Championship, chronicling life on and off the course for the Rebels. His first entry covers the time from the team's Friday arrival in Baltimore through Tuesday's practice round at Caves Valley Course in Owings Mills, Md.

We had a quick pizza dinner, and then relaxed for a bit and watched the basketball game. It was very disappointing that Phoenix lost.

It was a really early morning Thursday. We had a good warm-up and everyone felt pretty good to start the day. It was just a long day. I personally putted poorly. I played a lot better than 75. It's pretty frustrating when I look back on it. Too bad. It looks like we didn't lose too much ground, so that's nice. Not bad.

I don't think the course played any harder than yesterday. I don't know. When things are not flowing easily for you, things aren't happening like they should.

Jarred Texter and I left after the round and went back to the hotel to rest. We watched some coverage of the tournament on TV. It's kind of interesting to get to watch on TV. It's like no other college tournament. I actually haven't seen myself golfing on camera for like a year. It's pretty interesting.

We're not nearly out of time yet, but we need to make up some ground. Right now, we're just going to get a little steak and hit the sack.
