CCSN player picks Yankees over Aggies

Friday, June 3, 2005 | 10 a.m.

Mike Dunn, a sophomore utility baseball player at the Community College of Southern Nevada, has accepted an offer from the New York Yankees and recently reported to the team's rookie complex in Tampa, Fla.

The Cimarron-Memorial High graduate was a low-round draft pick by the Yankees last year and had accepted a scholarship offer to attend Texas A&M next fall.

According to CCSN coach Tim Chambers, however, Dunn was released of that commitment 10 days ago when the Aggies' administration fired baseball coach Mark Johnson, who had run the program for 21 years.

"He didn't want to play for a coach who hadn't recruited him," Chambers said.
