51s move into tie for first

Friday, June 3, 2005 | 9:54 a.m.

T.J. Nall got his second consecutive win as the Las Vegas 51s eked out a 6-5 victory against Colorado Springs on Thursday at Cashman Field.

Nall went 6 1/3 innings, giving up nine hits and five runs. But it was enough to carry the 51s (28-25) back into a tie for first place in the PCL's Pacific Conference Southern Division.

Three of those hits were to Jeff Pickler, who had hits in eight consecutiive at-bats through Thursday's game before grounding out to second in the ninth inning.

Pickler, who had 10 home runs in 2,998 career minor league at-bats before this season, has gotten three home runs off the 51s this series, two off Nall on Thursday.

Las Vegas' Jason Repko had a two-run inside-the-park home run in the fifth inning, and Brian Myrow went 2-for-3 with a triple and a home run.

After Repko put the 51s ahead 4-3, Las Vegas added two more in the sixth inning when Dioner Navarro and Tony Schrager scored on a single by Henri Stanley and a throwing error by Sky Sox catcher Pascual Matos.

The 51s conclude their four-game series with the Sky Sox tonight at Cashman Field. Dodgers reliever Elmer Dessens, originally scheduled to begin a rehabilitation assignment on Thursday, is now slated to start Friday and go 30 pitches before scheduled starter Ryan Rupe comes in.
