Event named for O’Callaghan

The Cure Asthma Golf Classic, scheduled for June 27 at Bali Hai Golf Club, has been renamed the Mike O'Callaghan Memorial Breath of Life Golf Classic presented by Cox Communications.

O'Callaghan, a two-term Nevada governor, was executive editor and columnist for the Las Vegas Sun until his death in March 2004. The tournament raises funds for the projects and programs of the National Jewish Medical Research Center in Denver.

O'Callaghan became the first Las Vegas honoree and trustee for the research center in 1972.

Entry packages for the tournament start at $750 per golfer and include greens fees, cart, gifts, breakfast and lunch.
