The Community College of Southern Nevada has hired a new vice president for student services, President Richard Carpenter said in a statement Tuesday.
Arthur Byrd, who currently holds a similar position at Long Beach City College, will make $136,000 a year and will start Aug. 1.
"Having served as a vice president of student services for 15 years, Arthur Byrd brings a breadth of experience to CCSN," Carpenter said in a written statement. "Our students will benefit immensely from his expertise.'
Carpenter is expected to announce a complete reorganization of CCSN's student services division later this month.
A graduate of Bellevue Community College in Washington, Byrd went on to receive a bachelor's in black studies and philosophy, a master's in communications and a doctorate in education at the University of Washington, Seattle.
He has overseen student services on five different campuses since the 1970s, including Long Beach, Allan Hancock College in Santa Barbara, the City College of San Francisco, Portland Community College and Everett Community College in Washington.
