Columnist Peter Benton: Silva’s 4-under-par wins Parr Memorial

Peter Benton's golf column appears Wednesday.
The eagerly awaited 2005 Aaron Parr Memorial Pro-Am last week at the Las Vegas Country Club was, as always, a keenly competitive event. (Parr, possibly one of the most popular young club professionals this city has ever had, was tragically killed in a freak auto accident five years ago, and to this day he is still sorely missed -- hence this tournament in his memory.)
Winning the individual pro segment in this full-field event was LVCC pro Tony Silva, who came in with a 4-under 68. Mike Buss (Las Vegas National) placed second one stroke back at 69, with third going to Jim Delaney (Southern Highlands) with 71. Mike Davis (Walter Golf) led his team of Romy Pantea, Lee Fair and Mark Morton to victory in the one-low net and one-gross foursome with a score of 127. Carl Seelman (LVCC), along with Scott Stoner, Zeke O'Leary and Joe Del Grosso, were second at 129, one stroke ahead of Jim Delaney (Southern Highlands) and partners Mike Ashe, Bob Cayne and Bernie Schiappa.
Ray Beallo and Lee Fair were low gross finishers for the amateurs with 73 and 74, respectively, while sharing low net with 69s were James Brown and Greg Gellner.
WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION: Entries are being accepted for the Women's Southern Nevada Golf Association amateur championship June 27-28 at the Paiute Golf Club.
The format is a 36-hole stroke play event and will be limited to the first 60 entries. The $170 entry fee includes green fees, cart, prizes and an awards luncheon.
Coinciding with this event is the association's Silver Cup Team Qualifier.

SUMMERLIN TOURNAMENT: Chris Paul of the host club fired a fine 70 to win the pro division at TPC Summerlin on Tuesday. Tony Silva of LVCC and Rob Strain of Rhodes Ranch tied for 2nd with 75s. Paul's team also won the team event with a minus 22. Brady Exber won low gross with a 66 and Rob Martinez with a 67 won low net.
