A team of Bureau of Land Management and National Park Service firefighters contained a 5-acre blaze Wednesday night along a ridge top in the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area.
Fire investigators are expected to determine whether it was a lightning strike or another cause that ignited the fire burning south of Henderson, BLM spokeswoman Kirsten Cannon said.
The Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area includes petroglyphs and other sites sacred to Western Shoshone and Paiute tribes. None of the sensitive sites were in danger from the flames burning on top of a ridge, Cannon said.
A helicopter and two single-engine tankers along with a ground engine doused the blaze Wednesday night, Cannon said.
Fires burning in southwestern Utah were contained Wednesday afternoon.
Gunlock Road and Gunlock Reservoir, about 30 miles northwest of St. George, Utah, were reopened.
