Letter: Court nominee deserves a vote
Tuesday, July 26, 2005 | 9:06 a.m.
Here's what we really know about President Bush's recent Supreme Court nominee, John Roberts: He graduated with honors from Harvard in three years. He graduated from Harvard Law School. He clerked for Supreme Court Justice William Rehnquist. He argued 39 cases before the Supreme Court. He was unanimously approved by the U.S. Senate in 2003 to serve on the Washington, D.C., federal appeals court.
Once the spin doctors take hold of this nomination, the above facts may be lost in all the rhetoric. Judge Roberts has a sterling record and impeccable character -- items that should not get overlooked in the upcoming mudslinging.
I urge the Senate Judiciary Committee to bring this nomination before the whole Senate for a straight "up or down" vote. No more filibusters. Critique President Bush's nominee on his record!
