51s end road trip with 9-4 victory

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Las Vegas 51s defeated the Salt Lake Stingers, 9-4, in the final of their Pacific Coast League road trip Monday at Franklin Covey Field.
The 51s were 3-2 in the series and 4-6 on the trip. Las Vegas, which improved to 44-59 on the season, had 11 hits and took advantage of seven Salt Lake errors that led to five unearned runs. Three players recorded multiple-hit games -- right fielder Nick Theodorou was 3-for-5, RBI; third baseman Jose Valentin was 2-for-4, RBI and catcher Dioner Navarro was 2-for-4, double and RBI. Salt Lake (58-44) had 11 hits and was led by first baseman Casey Kotchman, 3-for-3 with two doubles and a home run. Designated hitter Nick Gorneault was 3-for-4 with two doubles.
51s right-hander T.J. Nall recorded his fifth victory. He pitched six innings, and allowed nine hits and four runs. He walked three and struck out three.
Las Vegas returns today to Cashman Field and will play host New Orleans starting at 7:05 p.m.
