Utah fires still burning

About 500 firefighters still battled blazes burning through 22,800 acres of dry brush 10 miles north of St. George, Utah, on Sunday night, the Bureau of Land Management said.
Cloudy and cooler conditions helped firefighters construct firelines around the flames sparked by lightning Wednesday, said BLM fire information officer David Boyd.
Seven fires known as the Sunrise Complex Fire is expected to be fully contained by Tuesday, Boyd said.
Gunlock Road was closed to everyone except local residents and Gunlock State Park was closed because seven helicopters and two heavy tankers were working the fire.
Another 18,368-acre fire burned 12 miles north of St. George in Dammeron Valley. The fire is burning in rugged terrain and has slowed.
Three fires known as the Tank Complex burned 69,934 acres about 30 miles south of the Utah-Arizona border, Boyd said. The fire is 50 percent contained, with full containment expected Tuesday. More than 600 firefighters along with three helicopters are working this fire.
Fire restrictions are in place for southern Utah, including no campfires except in approved fire rings and grates in developed campgrounds, no campfires at all on the Arizona Strip and no fireworks on federal, state and unincorporated private land.
