Loretta C. Blackburn
Loretta C. Blackburn, 97, of North Las Vegas died Tuesday in North Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 18, 1907, in Batavia, N.Y. A resident for more than 25 years, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by one sister, Thelma Torck of North Las Vegas.
Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.
Alyce K. Polesky
Alyce K. Polesky, 93, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local care center. She was born April 1, 1912, in Billings, Mont. A resident for 15 years, she was a retired PBX operator for the telephone company and a member of Catholic Daughters of America.
She is survived by one daughter, Gigi P. Oram of Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., handled arrangements.
The family suggests donations to Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, 1501 N. Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89104.
Sharon Marie Scarpati
Sharon Marie Scarpati, 58, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 29, 1946, in New York. A resident for 11 years, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, John; two sons, John L. Scarpati and Ralph V. Scarpati; one daughter, Carol L. Scarpati; two sisters, Carol Squeglia and Linda Randall; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 4-5 p.m. Thursday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.
Anthony James Scinta
Anthony James Scinta, 84, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born March 18, 1921, in New York. A resident for 19 years, he was a postal worker and an Army Air Corps veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Goldie; two sons, Larry Scinta and Jim Scinta; one sister, Marie Lane; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 12:40 p.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.
Sang Do Shim
Sang Do Shim, 68, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a California hospital. He was born March 28, 1937, in Pusan, Korea. A resident for 25 years, he was a retired minister at the Life Korean Church of Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife, Soo Sang; two sons, Yol Kyu Shim of Los Angeles and Ui Kyu Shim of Korea; one daughter, Yon Hee Shim of Las Vegas; and six grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled 9 a.m. until a 2 p.m. service Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.
John Roger Thomas
John Roger Thomas, 59, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 6, 1946, in California. A resident for 16 years, he was a painter.
He is survived by his wife, Marian; three daughters, Alicia Rose Owens, Jessica Thomas and Stephanie Demars; two sisters, Nancy Lee Knobloch and Anita Fox; and two grandchildren.
Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling private arrangements.
Bill Townley
Bill Townley, 54, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born April 2, 1951, in Brockport, N.Y. A resident for 15 years, he was a diesel mechanic for a cement company, a Vietnam War Army veteran and a member of Local 631.
He is survived by his wife, Laurie; four sons, Bill Townley of Ontario, Calif., and Wesley Townley, Tim Townley and Travis Townley, all of Las Vegas; one daughter, Kelli Sandoval, and his father, James Thompson, both of Las Vegas; four brothers; six sisters; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.
The family suggests donations to the American Lung Association, 3375 Glen Ave., No. 7, Las Vegas, NV 89121, or the American Cancer Society, 1325 E. Harmon Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89119.
William John Zakaras
William John Zakaras, 58, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 7, 1946, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for five years, he was a retired truck driver for a major oil company.
He is survived by his wife, Valentina; and two sisters, Carol and Janet.
