Plame’s ‘outing’ reduced security

Friday, July 22, 2005 | 9 a.m.

Predictably the "outing" of covert CIA operative Valerie Plame has become completely politicized instead of being treated as a national security issue.

The U.S. is frequently not regarded as a secure intelligence partner. Now, we have the White House and the executive branch involved in blowing the cover of a covert agent.

I am a lifelong Republican. But if Karl Rove is involved in this sorry affair, he should face a grand jury and a special prosecutor. We need to restore confidence in our intelligence operations.
