Company to purchase Managed Care Consultants

Friday, July 22, 2005 | 9:17 a.m.

Cigna HealthCare announced that it is acquiring Henderson-based Managed Care Consultants Inc.

Under the terms of the deal announced Wednesday, Cigna would acquire Managed Care's preferred-provider organization that insures about 140,000 Nevadans and its three provider networks associated with those plans.

Bloomfield, Conn.-based Cigna's purchase is for an undisclosed price and the deal was not subject to state or federal regulatory approvals. Cigna insures about 70,000 Nevadans with its health, dental and behavioral plans.

Managed Care President Joe Lawrence and Executive Vice President Jerry Kring will no longer be employees but will remain involved as advisers.

Separately, Managed Care sold its workers' compensation business -- about 160,000 members -- to North Las Vegas-based A&M Claims Services for an undisclosed amount of money.
