Letter: Gibbons has earned respect
Thursday, July 21, 2005 | 9:32 a.m.
Leadership is more than giving millions of dollars to your favorite charity or university system. Leadership is about walking the walk, talking the talk. Rep. Jim Gibbons has demonstrated his leadership skills. Chancellor Jim Rogers tries to buy it.
Leadership is not about personal barbs or slaps. It's about commitment and staying the course. It's about public service and military courage. It's about being a member of Congress for five terms. It's about the people who know you and support you.
I am proud to say I have supported Jim Gibbons throughout his public career. I'm embarrassed that our university chancellor would lower himself to wallow in personal attacks. He is the chief executive of our fine university system, the same university system that named Jim Gibbons alumni of the year at the University Nevada, Reno. Jim Gibbons won't let the students of this state and their families down if he becomes governor -- his record in Congress proves that.
