Registration nears for Safekey
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is accepting Safekey and Teen Scene registration for the 2005-06 school year starting Aug. 18. For times and locations, call the Safekey office at 267-4100.
Safekey is a before-and-after-school recreational enrichment program that is offered at all Henderson public elementary schools. The program features crafts, games, cooking, special activities, homework assistance (starting at 4:30 p.m.) and a nutritional snack as an alternative for children while their parents work. It is offered to children ages 5-12.
Teen Scene is a recreational enrichment program offered to students (ages 13-15) during the nine-month school year at all Henderson public middle and junior high schools. The program offers teens the opportunity to custom tailor recreational and enrichment activities based on their individual interests.

Back to school fair set Aug. 13
The seventh annual Community Back to School Health and Educational Fair will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 13 at Community College of Southern Nevada, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave., North Las Vegas.
There will be vendors on hand distributing educational/community service materials, entertainment throughout the day on inside stage, in addition to free health checks, school supplies, refreshments, immunizations, face painting and much more.
The event also will include fashion shows, performance arts, educational and motivational activities, various mascots and more.
Class scheduled for aspiring triathletes
The clinic Triathlon 101 for aspiring triathletes will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Recreational Equipment store at the District at Green Valley Ranch.
Participants will meet Jim Muth, assistant race director for the Las Vegas Triathlon, and Frank Lowery, director of the Silverman Iron Distance Triathlon, to learn Tri Terminology, training schedules, types of races, gear lists, and the excitement and appeal of participating in a Triathlon.

Wellness fair planned for seniors
The Howard Lieburn Senior Center, 6230 Garwood Ave., invites area residents age 50 and older to its second annual Health and Wellness Fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday.
Health and wellness providers will offer free blood pressure checks; bone density and hearing tests; dental, eye and spinal screenings; and information on several senior services organizations. The health services are offered on a first-come first-served basis. Free continental breakfast and sandwiches, as well as free raffle tickets, will be offered to participants.
The event is sponsored by the Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services. Call 229-1600.
