Census report confirms Nevada’s growth

For the 12 months ending July 1, 2004, Nevada led the nation in housing growth with an expansion rate of 4.5 percent, according to U.S. Census Bureau statistics released this morning.

Following Nevada was Arizona at 3 percent, Utah at 2.6 percent and Florida and Idaho both at 2.5 percent, the housing gains report said.

Nevada's 976,446 housing units were up from 934,656, a gain of 41,790 units. Clark County accounts for 683,244 of the state's housing units, the report said.

The slowest state housing market was Rhode Island at 0.3 percent.

Between April 1, 2000, and July 1, 2004, Clark County was the 38th fastest growing county in terms of housing units with a growth rate of 22.1 percent, the report said.

Based on actual housing units -- not percentage change -- Clark County bested any other county in the top 100 with 123,460 housing units added during the four-year period. Only one other county on the list added more than 50,000 housing units.
