Urban trail will be dedicated
Las Vegas Councilman Steven Ross and other city officials will celebrate completion of the city's first trail project with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Rio Vista Street-Haven Hollow Avenue intersection.
Work included the installation of retaining walls and curbs, removal of 1,500 tons of fill dirt, placement of 65 tons of base material for concrete improvements and 265 cubic yards of concrete. Landscaping enhancements included 725 tons of landscape rock, 75 plants and 25,000 pounds of boulders.
All of the work on the Rio Vista Trail Project was done by city crews to improve the nearly one-half mile section of Rio Vista Street. Federal funding was obtained in accordance with the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act through the Bureau of Land Management.

Career fair set for Hispanics
The Southern Nevada Hispanic Employment Program is presenting the third annual Career Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Texas Station.
The program will give job seekers the opportunity to meet several different employers from the Las Vegas Valley.
The Hispanic Employment Program tries to help achieve increased Hispanic employment, education and business development.
Job seekers from throughout the city are invited to attend and present their resumes to employers.

First-aid and CPR classes
will be offered to those ages 16 to adult from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 8 and 22 at the Cimarron Rose Community Center, 5591 N. Cimarron Road. Cost is $25. Call 229-1607.
A representative from Nevada eye and Ear
will offer a free vision screening from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Aug. 11 at the Sunrise Senior Friends H2U office, 3101 S. Maryland Parkway, 100. For more information, call 735-5510.
