Letter: Rove controversy recalls Watergate
Friday, July 15, 2005 | 9:34 a.m.
It comes as no surprise that George W. Bush has no comment regarding Karl Rove and his outing of the identity of a CIA agent to the press. Had this information been revealed by someone outside of his administration -- by a Democrat, say -- Bush would go on national TV to voice his outrage at this cowardly, traitorous act.
But because his main handmaiden is the culprit, he chooses to remain mum. It's a testament to Rove's character that he would allow reporters to face jail time rather than step forward to admit what he had done.
And what will happen to him now? Most assuredly, nothing. Not only will he be allowed to remain as Bush's mouthpiece, it's more than likely the White House will impede any legitimate investigation into the matter. It brings back memories of Watergate -- and look what happened to Nixon and his flunkies.
