Letter: Holier-than-thou attitude is getting very tiresome
Friday, July 15, 2005 | 9:33 a.m.
As an economics professor at UNLV, I teach my class that what people do is much more important that what they say. Saying you are a Christian is costless and vacuous. Living a Christian life is very difficult and rarely achieved. Ironically, the so-called Christian right typically behave in a most unchristian manner when it comes to basing their lives on the following rules, attributed to Jesus in the New Testament:
I am sick and tired of the holier-than-thou attitude of the anti-Christian right. Just as slaveholders spouted the Bible as an excuse for enslaving their brethren, today's religious hypocrites fervently believe that spewing hatred and ignorance and protecting the privileged is doing the Lord's work.
Not my Lord, thank you.
