Fishing report: Boaters get the best of it while shore anglers suffer

Friday, July 15, 2005 | 9:33 a.m.

NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE

Particularly good catches have come from Las Vegas Bay at night where boaters are baiting their hooks with live shad and anchovies to catch stripers that generally range 2-5 pounds. Very few anglers have been seen on the water after mid-morning because the fishing slows and the heat becomes intense.

One shore angler said he had no luck for stripers after spending three days fishing last week at Special Events Beach.

Boaters who are fishing in the Overton Arm continue to have some luck for stripers around Fish Island. Largemouth and smallmouth bass are being caught around the islands near Echo Bay, but anglers have had to work hard to coax the fish to bite.

Drifting with anchovies and squid are taking the fish.

A few fish that are around 18 inches have been caught recently as well.

Largemouth bass that weigh less than a pound are being caught with small spinners.
