CARSON CITY -- The Nevada Patriot Fund, established in 2003, is nearly out of money to help the families of military men and women killed in action.
Gov. Kenny Guinn on Wednesday urged Nevadans to donate to the fund that has distributed $122,000 to the families of 14 soldiers killed. The governor said an additional $12,000 will be given to two more families over the next two weeks, leaving only $1,000 available.
The fund, set up by Guinn and others, gives $6,000 to the parents of a single military person killed in action and $12,000 if the individual is married.
"I strongly urge each of you to show your appreciation for the tremendous sacrifices made to Nevada's armed servicemen and women by donating to this deserving program," Guinn said.
Donations can be made to the Nevada Patriot Fund (Account No. 6655843909)
5340 Kietzke Lane, Reno, Nev. 89508.
