Columnist Peter Benton: Tiger’s game, British layout seem a good match

Wednesday, July 13, 2005 | 9:58 a.m.

Peter Benton's golf column appears Wednesday.

The 134th British Open championship begins Thursday over the 7,279-yard, par-72 Old Course at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland.

This course is considered one of the fairest tests of golf -- on the British Open rotation -- with many subtleties, huge pot bunkers and conditions that can be totally different on a daily basis because of the variable weather. This is definitely a thinking man's layout

As has been my custom over the years, the following are my personal selections and odds for the tournament.
