Microchipping of pets is urged

Clark County Animal Control is urging area pet owners to take advantage of a high-tech and free way to track lost animals.
Veterinarians were expected to implant tracking microchips to the first 1,000 pets brought to the Las Vegas Convention Center today beginning at 9 a.m. They are expected to continue working for 47 hours or until the supplies run out, officials said.
The free microchipping is part of a test of the county's new Regional Mobile Emergency Shelter, they said.
Owners can enter the convention center at the Swenson Road entrance and follow "Free Microchipping" signs. Leashes and pet carriers are required.
