Public invited to river water meeting
The Bureau of Land Management will hold a public scoping meeting for the proposed Virgin and Muddy Rivers Surface Water Development Project from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today in Logandale.
The meeting, to be held in the Fine Arts Building at the Clark County Fairgrounds, will outline the Southern Nevada Water Authority's plan to develop and convey existing surface water rights currently owned by the Water Authority from Virgin and Muddy rivers to the Las Vegas Valley.
The scoping meeting will be held in an open house format to allow the public to visit the BLM and Water Authority representatives.
A brief presentation on the project is scheduled for 7 p.m. The remainder of the meeting will follow the open house format, where participants can ask questions, make comments, and visit various resource stations.

Senior center will host wellness fair
The Howard Lieburn Senior Center invites area residents age 50 and older to its second annual Health and Wellness Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the center, 6230 Garwood Ave., near U.S. 95 and Jones Boulevard.
The fair will offer free blood pressure checks; bone density and hearing tests; dental, eye and spinal screenings; and information on several senior services organizations. The health services are offered on a first-come first-serve basis. A free continental breakfast and sandwiches, as well as free raffle tickets, will be offered to participants.
The center is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, providing daily recreation and fitness activities, educational classes and workshops, group excursions, a community garden, arts, crafts, luncheons and and special events.

Credit counseling class offered free
Consumer Credit Counseling Service, 3650 S. Decatur Blvd., Suite 32, is offering the free class "Making Ends Meet and Dreams Come True" at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the service's Conference Center, 2650 S. Jones Blvd.
Participants will learn methods to organize spending, reduce debt, and build and maintain a good credit history without making costly or hazardous mistakes.

Basketball league planned for kids
The Clark County Parks and Recreation's Cambridge Recreation Center is accepting registration for boys and girls ages 5-18 to sign up as an individual and join as a team in the Clark County Summer Youth Basketball League.
There are three age groups for competition: Ages 5-8, 9-12 and 13-17. Registration ends July 22. League play begins July 30 at the Center, 3930 Cambridge St. (near Maryland Parkway and Flamingo Road).
Cost for the 5-8-year-old league is $25; $40 for the 9-12 age group; and $45 charge for the 13-17 age group. The charge includes an eight-week game schedule, referee fees, and trophies for first, second and third place season winners.

Health fair on tap for seniors Saturday
Epoch Assisted Living of Las Vegas will host a health fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m Saturday at the its center, 8720 W. Flamingo Road.
A variety of senior care service providers will be in attendance, including home health care and hospice agencies, physical therapists and medical services providers. Free services include oxygen level checks, balance checks, blood pressure clinics and fitness screens.
The event is free and open to the public.
