St. Bernard Parish ban seeking to rein in video poker

Monday, July 11, 2005 | 9:09 a.m.

CHALMETTE, La. -- The St. Bernard Parish Council is seeking a 180-day moratorium on new video poker truck stops while its members consider ways to tighten parish laws.

A final vote could be taken on the moratorium after the public hearing at the July 19 council meeting. It's not clear how the action would affect the two video poker truck stops already in the planning stages.

Parish Chief Administrative Officer Danny Menesses said the parish is not accepting any new applications for truck stops, but that he will seek legal advice from the district attorney's office.
