Man sought in shooting death
Metro Police are searching for a man who shot and killed a 41-year-old Las Vegas man and wounded two women early Sunday morning near Eastern and Mesquite avenues.
The women were taken to University Medical Center with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, Metro Sgt. Rocky Alby said.
Witnesses told police that the man who was shot, Tanzie Austin, had been walking in the 2600 block of Mesquite Avenue and arguing with a woman, officers said.
Another man walked out from a nearby alley and approached Austin, police said.
The man pulled out a handgun and shot Austin several times as well as the two women who were nearby, police said. The man suspected in the shooting is in his early 20s, 5-foot 6-inches tall, police said.
The gunman last seen getting into a brown vehicle, police said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 229-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
Boy, 2, grazed by truck in traffic
A 2-year-old boy who ran into traffic on Tropicana Avenue at Pecos Road and was grazed by a vehicle Sunday night suffered only a cut on his forehead and is expected to recover, Metro Police said.
The toddler was at a bus stop with his father and four other children about 9:20 p.m. when he put down his empty baby bottle and threw a tantrum, running into eastbound traffic on Tropicana, police said. He is expected to make a full recovery.
He was apparently grazed by a passing pickup truck.
The child was taken to Sunrise Children's Hospital, conscious and crying, police said. No charges were filed.
Woman killed in traffic crash
A 41-year-old driver was killed in a crash on Windmill Lane at Decatur Boulevard late Friday, Metro Police said.
Monica P. Meily was heading west in a 2003 Suzuki on Windmill Lane about 11:40 p.m. and failed to stop at Decatur Boulevard, police said.
A 2005 Dodge truck going southbound could not avoid the Suzuki. The Dodge driver, 33-year-old Richard Maris of Las Vegas, broadsided the Suzuki, police said. Maris suffered only minor injuries, officers said.
Bicyclist injured in car collision
A bicyclist was injured this morning when he went through a red light at Koval Lane outside of the Sands Convention Center and was hit by a 2002 Hyundai sedan, Metro Police said.
Santos Jacobo-Lopez of Las Vegas had ridden the bike down a ramp at the convention center about 12:10 a.m. and failed to stop at the red light at the intersection at Koval, entering the path of the Hyundai driven by 60-year-old Steven Katz of Los Angeles, police said.
Jacobo-Lopez was being treated for critical injuries this morning at Sunrise Hospital. Katz was not injured.
