Two-term Assemblyman Rod Sherer, R-Pahrump, will resign from his seat on Monday to take a job in Salt Lake City.
Sherer, 40, said he will become a human resources and recruitment director with Smith's Food and Drug Stores. He is now a Smith's store manager in Pahrump.
"I got a job opportunity that I just can't pass up," he said.
Sherer said he has encouraged Ed Goodheart, the manager of the Ponderosa Dairy in Amargosa Valley, to run for his seat.
He said Goodheart has expressed interest in representing the district, which encompasses all of Nye, Esmeralda and Lincoln counties, along with parts of Churchill County.
The district is largely Republican.
"This is going to remain a Republican seat," Sherer said.
Sherer said he is proud of his work to secure a hospital in Pahrump and to help residents moving into the growing area have a better idea of when sewer and water systems will be installed.
Sherer and his wife, Angela, have a 15-year-old daughter, Sarah, and an 11-year-old son, Cody.
